Position:

The University of Southern Californias Thornton School of Music invites applicants for a Part-Time Adjunct Instructor in Music Industry to begin on January 1, 2025. The period of appointment is for the Spring 2025 semester; renewal beyond this period is based on department needs.

Duties:

Principal duties include teaching one section of MUIN 430 Artist Management & Development , a 4-unit course for music industry majors and non-majors. Additional dutiessuch as private instruction, masterclasses, coaching sessions, or other instructional dutiesmay be assigned depending on departmental needs and the candidate's qualifications. Candidates participate in department activities such as capstone projects, and meetings, as needed and requested.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

Required: Bachelors degree in music industry, business administration or related field plus a minimum of five (5) years of practical experience working in the field as an Artist Manager for top industry artist(s)-possessing the skills listed below:

Preferred: Masters degree in music industry, business administration or related field plus a minimum of five (5) years of practical experience as a top executive for an Artist Management company consisting of top industry artist(s), singer(s), songwriters(s) and / or producer(s), including those artists nominated and / or winning GRAMMY Award(s)- possessing the skills listed below:

Eight (8) years of practical experience leading an Artist Management company consisting of top industry artist(s), singer(s), songwriters(s) and / or producer(s)-possessing the skills listed below.

below may be substituted for an undergraduate degree:

  • A strong working knowledge of the music industry in many of the following areas: record labels (both major and independent), music publishing companies, record producers, music licensing, tour planning, budgeting and negotiating;

  • Knowledge of current marketing trends, including a familiarity with immersive technologies to market and brand artist endeavors;

  • Advanced skills and knowledge in strategic business planning, business management development, and leadership training;

  • Proven success in entrepreneurial endeavors including starting of both small and large companies;

  • Significant collaborative experience with C-Suite executives inside and outside of the music industry;

  • Excellent verbal communication and organizational skills;

  • A record of proven leadership skills;

  • Experience teaching at the collegiate level.

The salary hiring range for this position is $9,400 to $9,800 per 4-unit course section, per semester.
