Position Summary

Chartered is actively seeking a dynamic and experienced Full-Time Multifamily Construction Drywall Hanger and Finisher to support construction activities on one or more of its large-scale multifamily projects located in Broomfield, Erie, and Longmont, Colorado by performing drywall installation and repair, including hanging, patching, taping, mudding, texturing, and sanding/finishing drywall. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in drywall installation and be familiar with various construction techniques. This role requires a commitment to quality workmanship and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced construction environment. This role will report directly to the Specialty Trade, Foreman, working in close coordination with the Superintendent and Project Manager. This presents a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to hone specialty carpentry skills and garner experience in building transformative projects and communities along the Front Range.

 

Construction Activities

  • Show up and ready to work when scheduled and adheres to behavioral standards.
  • Communicate absence or tardiness with supervisor as early as possible.
  • Track and report units and labor hours, including filling out and submitting timecards.
  • Understand and maintain established quality levels associated with duties.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in framing, hanging and finishing.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings.
  • Ability to maintain a clean and organized work area, including adherence to safety protocols at all times.
  • Assist with construction estimating by providing accurate measurements and material needs.
  • Perform punch out tasks as needed, including patching and repairing of existing drywall.
  • Responsible for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) compliance and following OSHA standards.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in drywall skills required:
    • Experience in all levels of drywall finishing from level 1 to level 5.
    • Ability to hang and patch drywall, including measuring, cutting, and shaping drywall panels to fit around windows, doors, and electrical outlets.
    • Ability to hang and patch drywall sheets on walls and ceilings, ensuring proper alignment and secure fastening.
    • Ability to apply caulking and joint compound to seams and nail holes for a smooth finish.
    • Ability to taping/finishing drywall, including application of skim coatings to walls and ceilings.
    • Ability to apply texture, including matching texture to existing texture and plaster patching.
    • Experience with airless paint spraying techniques for finishing drywall surfaces when required; premixed and hot mud; and variations of 5-20 min mud.

Other Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to reliably commute to site field office and projects, including reliable transportation, is required.
  • Personal smart phone with access to time and labor management system is required.
  • Personal ownership of all necessary tools is a plus, including:
    • Hand tools, including cutting drywall knife and tape measure; cordless screw gun; router; 12ga cords; drywall saw; T-square; laser; C-clamp; two and four ft levels; framing square; and speed square or snips.
  • Basic proficiency with computers and tablets, including Microsoft applications, is a plus.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish and English is a plus.
  • Strong physical and mental fitness is a requirement, including:
    • Ability to sustain frequent physical activities, including standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, carrying, swinging, reaching above shoulder, pushing, pulling, balancing.
    • Ability to climb stairs, reach above shoulder, and exercise good hand and finger dexterity in the course of performing activities, stocking and removing equipment, and handling tools and equipment in the course of work.
    • Ability to lift and carry various supplies and equipment of different sizes and weights in the course of work. Must be able to lift at least to 50 pounds.
    • May be exposed to extreme conditions (hot or cold).
    • Must be willing to work non-traditional hours to meet project needs, if needed.
    • Must be comfortable working at projected heights, narrow workspaces, various depths (trenches).

 

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Apprentice and/or Vocational/Technical/Trade training is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in drywall installation or related construction fields is required.
  • Familiarity with caulking and construction painting is considered a plus.

 

Work Environment

Chartered runs a small, family-oriented office, so a “Yes” attitude is vital to success in this role. This position is full-time and located at one of Chartered’s construction field offices. Work is required to be performed in-person at the applicable field office and project job site. This is not a remote position. There may be periods of extended work hours as well as stressful periods of work that require flexibility and patience. Candidates must be able to receive direction as well as be able to communicate and give clear, consistent instruction and/or feedback to others. This is a big position where there is no task too small. All employees wear multiple hats, which keeps everyday new and exciting.
