Position Overview  

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Controller to join our Houston, TX office. This individual will oversee our Accounting Department, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in all financial operations. This is an on-site position (hybrid work is not currently an option) and requires a self-starter who is detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple tasks, and committed to growing with the company. 

  

Key Responsibilities  

Department Leadership:  

  • Oversee the operations of the Accounting Department, ensuring its structure and processes align with the company's goals and deadlines. 
  • Supervise all aspects of Joint Interest Billing (JIB) and Revenue processing. 
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures. 
  • Oversee accounting operations for subsidiary LLCs, focusing on control systems, transaction-processing operations, and compliance with policies. 

Financial Management:  

  • Ensure timely payment of accounts payable, and optimize discounts on these payments. 
  • Ensure prompt collection of accounts receivable. 
  • Process payroll and ensure completion of bank reconciliations. 
  • Oversee timely debt payments and maintain an organized accounting filing system. 
  • Manage the chart of accounts and maintain control over accounting transactions. 

Reporting & Analysis:  

  • Issue timely and accurate financial statements. 
  • Coordinate the preparation of the corporate annual report. 
  • Develop benchmarks to measure company performance. 
  • Construct and monitor financial and operational metrics. 
  • Lead the production of the annual budget and forecasts, analyzing variances and reporting significant issues. 
  • Provide financial analyses for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations. 

Compliance & Audit:  

  • Coordinate communications with external auditors for the annual audit. 
  • Ensure all local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings are met on time. 

  

Qualifications  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration (preferred) 
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, with a strong emphasis on Oil & Gas E&P. 
  • CPA or CMA certification is highly preferred. 
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills; accuracy and timeliness are essential. 
  • Strong mathematical and analytical abilities. 
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and thrive in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Strong Excel skills. 
  • WolfPac, OGSYS, and EnergyLink .
  • 10-key by touch proficiency.
