Job Summary:
As a Career Coach, you will play a key role in guiding middle and high school students as they explore their career interests. You'll coordinate career exploration activities, work closely with partners, and assist students in defining their future career paths. By offering career counseling and organizing programs such as job shadowing, internships, and career fairs, you'll help students match their aspirations with post-graduation opportunities. You will also track and report on student progress to ensure they stay on the right path toward success.
Key Responsibilities:
Administer career interest assessments to help students identify potential career paths.
Provide career counseling to individual students and in groups, helping them develop personalized career plans.
Conduct both in-person and virtual sessions for students, families, and staff, offering job readiness workshops, career exploration, and guidance on available services.
Coordinate career exploration activities such as guest speakers, field trips, and job shadowing with school staff.
Collaborate with teachers and school administrators to integrate career counseling into the classroom through business visits, guest speakers, and other activities.
Partner with community organizations and businesses to offer valuable career experiences for students.
Organize and conduct job readiness activities, including mock interviews, career fairs, and essential skills training.
Assist students in finding internships, apprenticeships, and work experience opportunities.
Participate in the creation of career resources and ensure students have access to self-service career tools.
Attend staff meetings, conferences, and functions related to youth career development.
Additional duties as needed to support the program.
Remote/Virtual Work:
This position requires you to be onsite at the assigned school Monday through Friday, unless schools are closed. If schools are closed but the program remains open, you'll report to the career center.
Qualifications:
2+ years of experience working with youth in education, workforce development, case management, or a related field.
Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
Experience working within a K-12 school system is preferred.
Strong understanding of career counseling theories and techniques, especially in working with a diverse population.
Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
Experience conducting workshops and delivering presentations is a plus.
Commitment to delivering exceptional service to students and the community.
Work Environment:
General office setting, but with regular travel to schools and community events.
Flexibility required for some evening and weekend hours, depending on program needs.
Physical Demands:
This position involves moving around the office and schools.
Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds, such as moving tables or equipment when setting up events.
